Blue Cross Blue Shield Helps ACCION Build Bridges to Better Health Care

Contribution to Support Educational Program for Entrepreneurs

Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) and ACCION New Mexico are creating a new partnership to support New Mexico entrepreneurs who lack affordable health insurance.

BCBSNM is increasing its support to the nonprofit small business lender with a contribution to expand ACCION’s Bridges to Better Health program. The initiative launched in 2006, gets information on affordable health-care options into the hands of ACCION clients. Blue Cross’ participation in ACCION Bridges to Better Health will allow ACCION to provide educational health-care opportunities across the state.

ACCION New Mexico breaks down barriers to capital for underserved entrepreneurs and provides support to these hardworking business owners to boost their opportunity for economic empowerment and lasting success. Since 1994, ACCION has provided 2,227 businesses with loans averaging about $5,600 in size in 153 communities including New Mexico’s colonias, or unincorporated communities along the New Mexico/Mexico border and pueblos.

“We are very pleased to partner with ACCION in this great venture,” said Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico Director of Marketing Promotions and Community Relations, Alfonso Trujillo “Small business is the backbone of New Mexico and we are proud to support initiatives which provide information to grow these entrepreneur’s healthy businesses.”

Lynn Trojahn, ACCION New Mexico’s vice president of advancement, said the partnership will strengthen the ACCION Bridges to Better Health initiative.

“We are honored that Blue Cross Blue Shield has chosen to invest in ACCION’s efforts to foster healthy, sustainable communities across New Mexico” Trojahn said. “Blue Cross understands that building strong and thriving communities happens one healthy family, one healthy business at a time.”
