Business Weekly: ACCION Among Best Places to Work in New Mexico
New Mexico Business Weekly Names ACCION New Mexico Among Top 25 "Best Places to Work in New Mexico"
The New Mexico Business Weekly has named ACCION New Mexico one of the Best Places to Work in New Mexico. The award recognizes the company’s achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees.
The Albuquerque-based nonprofit small business lender was one of 78 companies and organizations to enter the contest and among the Top 25 winners.
ACCION and the other finalists were featured in a special supplement of the New Mexico Business Weekly on Dec. 8 and at a breakfast event that same day in Albuquerque.
ACCION is a community development organization dedicated to positive social and economic change in New Mexico. The nonprofit breaks down barriers to capital for entrepreneurs who want to start or grow a business. Since its 1994 inception, ACCION has financed the start-up or growth of more than 2,100 businesses in small business loans totaling more than $19.5 million. The organization has served entrepreneurs in more than 150 urban and rural New Mexico communities.
The awards program was launched in August by the Business Weekly with house ads in the paper, notices via the weekly publisher’s e-mail and direct outreach to businesses and chambers of commerce around the state.
Interested companies were asked to go online to the Business Weekly’s Web site and fill out a survey form. The companies were broken out into three categories based on the number of New Mexico employees: Small firms had 10 to 50 employees; medium companies had 51 to 200 employees; and large firms had more than 200 employees.
Employees of nominated companies were asked to complete an employee survey, which was developed by Quantum Market Research. Questions were broken down into 10 different categories: Team effectiveness, retention risk, alignment with goals, trust with co-workers, individual contribution, manager effectiveness, trust in senior leaders, feeling valued, work engagement and people practices. The winners were selected based on employee measurement of 40 attributes known to drive employee engagement. The top 10 companies in each category were recognized, and the Business Weekly published a Top 25 list ranked by overall score, regardless of size category.
